This shoulder bag features fabric which has been crafted by a family of 9th generation Ajrakh Block-Printers in the desert region of Gujarat, India.
The traditions of using colours derived from nature (such as indigo, turmeric, madder root, iron & red mud) and hand-carved teak printing blocks are still practised today by this family.
During the creation of your piece, the fabric may have been printed, dyed and washed up to 20 times. Natural imperfections in variations of colour and patterns are a feature of the fabric.
Due to a devastating earthquake in 2001 and the introduction of chemical dyes and modern techniques, this method of Block-Printing is gradually diminishing.
The colouring of this bag positively glows with its saffron and mustard toning and beautifully detailed pattern. Attached to the handle is a calico covered button handmade by Lyssy May to compliment the range.
